Approved...Approved...Approved!!!
Three of our projects were approved for funding this past week! (Yeah! It's "happy dance" time) Project CURE, the school of nursing computer network, and the eye clinic were approved by the area presidency. They are smaller amount projects so they don't need to go to SLC. We are still waiting for our emergency response project to be approved. It usually takes only 2 days to get approval and it has now been 3-4 weeks. I think it's lost somewhere. I keep asking about it, and our "boss" keeps telling me to be patient, it's at the area presidency. I just feel bad because these families are needing help now. The good news is that when you don't have much, and you lose it all, you haven't lost much. The Kiribati people are a very resilient people and are already rebuilding their lives.
We have 4 more projects we are working on. One is to build an accessible toilet for the Community for the Disabled . We met with them today. I love the work they are doing. We are writing the project up now and will get it to committee tomorrow. It should be approved fairly easily.
Dancing is a very, very big part of the Kirabati culture. Last week we had a Stake RS dance activity. My ward actually invited me to dance with them. They spent 4 evenings patiently trying to teach me a couple of dances. It is way harder than it looks. However, I finally got it. We danced on Saturday. Wow. What an experience! The funny part about it was how shocked the other wards and stake leaders were to see a white, senior missionary dancing a couple of their traditional dances. I am so grateful to these wonderful sisters.
We've been out of power all day today, which means no air conditioning. It was cooler outside in the shade than inside our apartment. Although we have a propane tank stove which you light with a cigarette lighter (scary), I usually use an electric fry pan or rice cooker to cook with. But no worries - PB&J sandwiches all around.
